Shear Strength
Up to DN1500, Viking Johnson dedicated couplings can withstand a shear force corresponding to the weight (W) of a 10 metre length of water-filled pipe of the diameter for which the couplings were designed, when supported between two couplings. This also applies to flange adaptors and in the case of stepped couplings the maximum shear resistance is that of the smaller end of the coupling.
MaxiFit and MegaFit Wide Range couplings are not generally suitable for this duty, and the pipe should be adequately supported to prevent sagging and coupling rotation.
