Technical Design Data / Operating Temperature
Operating Temperature
The maximum operating temperature of a Viking Johnson product is determined by taking lowest value of: –
- The temperature rating that gasket compound can accommodate.
- The temperature rating that the coating can accommodate.
- The temperature rating that the finished product will function – this is always defined on the data sheet for each product range.
Different grades of gaskets are available to suit various temperature ranges as well as different chemical resistance requirements.
Most Viking Johnson Couplings are supplied with Rilsan Nylon 11 coating which has a maximum operating temperature of 90°C. For higher temperatures, alternative coatings such as galvanised may be necessary.
Viking Johnson couplings operate at their maximum efficiency under conditions of relatively constant temperature. If temperature fluctuations occur or the system is operating at elevated temperatures >60ºC, retightening of the bolts may be required. For this reason, where maintenance free operation is required, Viking Johnson couplings are not recommended as a pipe jointing system for central heating or similar systems that do not operate at a relatively constant temperature.
