Pipe End Preparation

Critical Dimensions L & M on Pipe End:

If the pressure rating for the fitting is to be maintained, there are two critical dimensions from the pipe end that must be considered: –

Dimension L (applies to all Viking Johnson products), is: –

  • The distance back from the end of the pipe where the gasket will be located, which must: –
    • Be round, clean, smooth and free from bumps, dents, score marks, flat spots, weld beads etc.
    • Comply with the pipe tolerances in accordance with industry standards / specifications.
  • The distance back from the end of the pipe from which any pipe wrapping should be removed to permit coupling assembly.

Dimension M (applies only to Viking Johnson Dedicated, QuickFit and FlexLock products) is: –

  • The minimum distance any wrapping must be cut back or obstructions removed to permit a coupling to fully slide onto a pipe end.
  • Only applicable to Viking Johnson dedicated, QuickFit and FlexLock ranges, as the bore of wide tolerance fittings will usually accommodate any wrappings applied to pipes.

The above applies equally to Viking Johnson Dedicated Couplings with or without locating plugs.
