Pipe Repair products offer a fast, safe way to seal splits, holes, and corroded sections instantly – often under full system pressure – avoiding the need for expensive and time-consuming network shutdowns.
MaxiStep Couplings connect pipes of different diameters across multiple materials, offering wide tolerance, 6° angularity, and easy installation with a single spanner, ideal for repair and maintenance applications.
There are restrictions on the minimum thickness of the stainless steel, PVC-U and GRP pipes for them to work with Viking Johnson flexible couplings. Consult Viking Johnson for further guidance.
Caveat 3
While Viking Johnson has tested and approved the use of MaxiStep on gas, please verify that the network owner sanctions the use of the fitting for your intended application.

A Versatile Solution for Pipe Jointing.
Excellent Repair Product
MaxiStep are reducing couplings provide efficient transitions between pipes of different nominal bores, making them highly effective for repairing older pipelines with new materials. Their design simplifies installation, improves alignment, and ensures reliable integration between legacy and modern pipe systems.
Universal Pipe Connections
MaxiStep connects plain ended pipes across a wide range of outside diameters and materials, including steel, ductile iron, PVC, cast iron, GRP and asbestos cement. This versatility allows one fitting to replace multiple material-specific options, improving efficiency and reducing inventory complexity.
Wide Tolerance Design
With up to 34 mm OD tolerance, MaxiStep simplifies installation and reduces the need for trial holes. The broad tolerance range also lowers stock requirements and increases turnover by covering more pipe scenarios with fewer sizes.
Pressure Performance
MaxiStep couplings are tested to 29 bar (water), validating the working pressure of 16 bar (water) and 6 bar (gas), to ensure consistent sealing performance.
Quick & Efficient Installation
Pre-assembled gaskets with ‘slide-easy’ ribs reduce friction and maintain sealing pressure even on corroded or scored pipes. Captive non-rotating bolt heads allow installation with a single spanner and one standard torque. MaxiStep improves bolt access in narrow trenches.
Versatile Repair Capability
MaxiStep has a material flexibility and wide tolerance making it ideal for replacing damaged pipe sections. Fewer sizes are required for emergency repairs, and MaxiStep enhances accessibility in confined spaces.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured under BS EN ISO 9001, the range meets BS EN 14525 performance requirements.
Why Choose MaxiStep Couplings
Time saving – The MaxiStep design delivers fast installation.
Built in angular flexibility – Handles natural pipeline movement from ground settlement. 6° deflection on couplings for reliable alignment.
Wide tolerance – Reduces the need for large stock holdings.
50 year design life – Proven through accelerated ageing at 80°C under pressure for 1000 hours.
Over torque tested – Can withstand 1.5 × maximum recommended torque without failure.
Rilsan coating – Provides exceptional protection against corrosion, impact, abrasion, and chemicals.
Design Benefits
MaxiStep
Has a stepped Sleeve available as standard and long sleeved versions.
Optimised Gasket Design
A unique gasket with distinctive circumferential ribs provides a ‘slide easy’ fit for maximum sealing on scored, corroded, or pitted pipe.
Flexible Fit
Flared end to the sleeve forms a deep gasket chamber to give maximum possible pipe adjustment.
Excellent Corrosion & Damage Resistance
Coated in black Rilsan Nylon 11 which is WRAS listed and has excellent resistance to impact, abrasion, weathering and chemicals. It also has good thermal stability and flexibility to accommodate for rough site handling.
Simple Installation
All the MaxiStep products have captive, non-rotating bolt heads require just a torque wrench to install.
MaxiStep Couplings Long Sleeve
All large Diameter MaxiStep (DN350 – DN700) have a long sleeve length as standard; this is a major benefit to the installer, allowing for greater cutting tolerances and a greater pipe insertion depth sealing beyond corrosion damaged pipe ends to create a safe and permanent repair.
