Pipe Repair products offer a fast, safe way to seal splits, holes, and corroded sections instantly – often under full system pressure – avoiding the need for expensive and time-consuming network shutdowns.
Large Diameter Couplings offer flexible connections for rigid pipes in new installations, providing up to 6° angularity, cold-expanded strength assurance, and optional tie-rod anchoring for high-performance pipeline applications.

A Proven Solution for New Lay Pipes
Trusted Choice for Large Diameter Pipelines
Viking Johnson offers a robust and reliable range of Large Diameter couplings specifically designed for new-lay pipes where nominal sizes are known. This range is highly flexible, offering both standard and custom-made solutions to meet specific diameters and working pressures, making them a preferred choice for major pipeline projects.
Design Liaison & Support
The company works closely with clients and contractors globally to assist in product selection. This assistance includes detailed design co-operation with specifying engineers, site visits to aid installation, and the development of specially designed products. Viking Johnson also manages extensive documentation and performs proof testing in its comprehensive in-house facility to meet the requirements of large-scale projects.
Product Capability & Flexibility
These versatile couplings are internally barrelled to allow for greater angular deflection, making them ideal for accommodating misaligned pipes. The range covers diameters from DN350 to DN4000 and can handle pressures up to 70 bar. Stepped couplings are available to join pipes of different external diameters, while flange adaptors can be drilled to any national, international, or customer-specific standard.
Quality & Approvals
All products are designed and manufactured under quality management systems certified to ISO 9001. Furthermore, utilising the cold expansion process in their manufacture they adhere to the American Water Works Association’s AWWA/ANSI C219 specification for bolted couplings, ensuring compliance with international safety and performance standards.
Why Choose Large Diameter
Movement absorption – Couplings absorb up to 10mm and flange adaptors up to 5mm of expansion or contraction, often eliminating the need for dedicated expansion joints.
Angular deflection – To accommodate misaligned pipes or ground settlement, couplings offer up to 6° of deflection, while flange adaptors provide up to 3°.
Application versatility – These solutions are ideal for bridge crossings, chambers, and pump stations, effectively managing natural pipe movement and settlement in service.
Simplified connectivity – High deflection and expansion capabilities streamline the connection of misaligned pipework to flanged equipment, reducing the need for precision alignment.
Durable standard finish – All products feature a black Rilsan Nylon 11 coating, providing high resistance to impact, corrosion, abrasion, and chemical attack.
Custom coating options – Beyond the standard finish, alternative coatings such as epoxy, zinc spray, or hot-dip galvanising can be supplied to meet specific project needs.
Design Benefits
Corrosion Protection
Metal components are coated with Rilsan Nylon 11, which is WRAS approved for use with potable water, and offers long term corrosion protection and resistance to impact damage. The nuts & bolts are Sheraplex coated to WIS 4-52-03, which does not gall when re-used and offers a consistent “torque / load” ratio reducing the sensitivity during installation while providing long term corrosion protection.
Cold Expansion
Manufactured to AWWA C219, the end rings and centre sleeves are cold-expanded to work-harden the steel. This process ensures precise roundness and verifies structural integrity by subjecting the material to loads substantially greater than those encountered in standard service.
Advanced Welding
Flash butt welding is utilised for both the end rings and centre sleeves to ensure a full-penetration weld. This creates a totally homogeneous material structure free from impurities, guaranteeing uniform strength and long-term reliability across the entire assembly.
Captive Bolts
To streamline on-site assembly, the design features captive, non-rotating bolt heads. This allows for a much faster installation process, as the components can be securely tightened using only a single spanner, reducing labour time and complexity.
Versatile Sleeves
The range is engineered to adapt to diverse site conditions by offering both standard and long sleeve lengths.
Internal Barrelling
The internal barrelling of the sleeve is a key design feature that allows for angular deflection of up to 6°, depending on the size.
Gaskets Options
EPDM (water quality approved) and Nitrile gaskets are provided as standard to suit most applications. For specialist projects, alternative exotic gasket grades are also available to ensure compatibility with aggressive chemicals or extreme environmental conditions.
